Cardinals Compete at EMU Twilight Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed today (4/23) in the Eastern Michigan University hosted Twilight Invitational.

The women's team was led by junior Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) who placed second overall in the 800-meter run crossing the line at 2:12.29.  Distance runners Libby Robinson (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley HS) and Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) also earned top finishes, Robinson in the 5,000-meter run coming in at 17:46.40 and Hill in the 3,000-meter steeple chase timing in at 11:15.81, both placing fifth overall.  Earning a sixth place finish in the 4x100-meter relay was the team of Elizabeth Sampson, Kelsey Bartoloni, Shavonne Roberson, and Sarah Kawiecki who crossed the line at 49.50.

The men's team was led by senior Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East HS) who placed fifth overall in the mile run clocking in at 4:22.62.  Also earning a top finish for the Cardinals was junior Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) who earned a seventh place finish in the steeple chase crossing the line with a final time of 9:42.46.  The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Eric Osley (St. Clair Shores, Mich./South Lake HS), Raetron Bryant (Burton, Mich./Artherton HS), Lee Chiatalas (Fenton, Mich./Linden HS), and Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) came in with a final time of 42.63 placing them fourth overall.  Grob, Chiatalas, and Bryant were joined by David Ray (Lansing, Mich./Eastern High School) to make up the 4x400-meter relay team that crossed the line in third place with a final time of 3:21.47 to round out the meet.

The Cardinals will be back in action again next weekend (4/29 - 4/30) when they travel to Indiana to compete in the Stan Lyons Invitational.
