Cardinals Compete in the Northwood Open

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed today (4/17) in the Northwood University Open Meet.

The Lady Cardinals were led by senior distance runner Libby Robinson (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley HS) who finished first overall in the 10,000-meter run crossing the line at 37:29.09.  Tying for first in the pole vault was junior Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) who cleared a height of 3.55meters.  Earning a second place in the 100-meter hurdles was junior Sarah Kawiecki (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) who came in at a time of 15.96.  Teammate Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) also placed second in the 3,000-meter steeple chase clocking in at 11:38.08 for the Cardinals.  Coming in third overall was the 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Willford, Kelsey Bartoloni (Southgate, Mich./Southgate HS), Shavonne Roberson (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS), and Kawiecki with a final time of 49.81.
The men were led by junior Brian Bott (Buckley, Mich./Kingsley HS) who hit a NCAA Division II provisionally qualifying mark of 55.98meters in the hammer throw, earning him second place.  Another top finisher for the Cardinals was junior distance runner Greg Baade (Warren, Mich./De La Salle Collegiate HS) who placed first overall in the 10,000-meter run clocking in at 32:38.  Fellow distance runner Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) would earn a second place finish in the 3,000-meter steeple chase coming in with a final  time of 9:41.72.  
The Cardinals will be back in action next Friday (4/22) and Saturday (4/23) when they compete in the Stan Lyons Invitational.
