Women's Track Finishes Seventh In GLIAC Indoor Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's indoor track & field team competed in the 2011GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday (2/25) and Saturday (2/26).  The Lady Cardinals played host to this year's championships and put-up some good scores in the meet.

Junior Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.66 meters.  The distance medley team, consisting of Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS), Dana Stolicker (Deckerville, Mich./Deckerville HS), Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) and Angela Brooks (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon HS) set a new school record with an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 12:13.43.  Junior Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) finished eighth overall in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:08.79. 

Junior Sarah Kawiecki (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage HS) finished third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.08 while teammate Diamond Taylor took fourth, posting a time of 59.16.

The women's team posted a seventh place finish in the championships, ending with a total of 31.50 points.  The GLIAC Championships conclude regular season competition for the Cardinals.  SVSU athletes who have qualified for nationals will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships.  The meet is set to take place on March 11-12.
