Cardinals Host the SVSU Indoor Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams hosted the SVSU Indoor Classic Friday (Jan. 21).

The women's team had some strong performances and were led by junior Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) who placed first in the 800-meter run clocking in at 2:23.10.  Teammate Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) would also earn top finishes in the pole vault and the 60-meter hurdles with marks of 3.35meters and 9.68 seconds, both good for first place.  Junior Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) earned a first place finish in the mile crossing the line with a final time of 5:20.15 while teammate Jean Hollerbach (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Grosse Pointe South HS) placed first in the 3,000-meter run coming in at 10:40.59.

The men's team also had strong performances and were led by senior Jeff Wilson (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon HS) who placed first in the mile and second in the 800-meter run finishing with times of 4:26.08 and 2:01.71.  Junior Greg Baade (Warren, Mich./De La Salle Collegiate HS) earned a first place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.09.  Earning a first place finish in the 200-meter run was freshman sprinter Raetron Bryant (Burton, Mich./Artherton HS) who clocked in at 23.01.  Freshman teammate Frank Sanders (Detroit, Mich./Sterling Heights HS) placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.93meters.

The Cardinals will be back in action again Friday (Jan. 28) when they host the Cardinal Open.
