Dayton Brown Earns All-America to Highlight NCAA DII Cross Country Championships

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon. The Cardinal men tallied 424 points to place 17th as a team. On the women's side, SVSU totaled 514 points for 21st in the team standings.

Junior Dayton Brown highlighted the afternoon for the Cardinals as he finished seventh with a personal best in the 10k of 29 minutes, 57.2 seconds to earn NCAA DII All-America honors. His seventh-place showing is the second-best individual finish for the SVSU men's cross country program.

Freshman Corey Bowers and sophomore Thomas Hufton finished back-to-back in 85th and 86th with career-best times. Bowers crossed the finish line at 31:04.0, and Hufton followed at 31:05.3. Sophomore Carson Hersch placed 146th with a PR of 31:50.2, and sophomore Nicholas Bozarth was 178th with a time of 32:11.3. Freshman Dominic Suliman recorded a PR as he placed 180th with a 32:13.5. Freshman Jack Lobodzinski rounded out the seven times for SVSU with the 250th time of 35:02.2.

Sophomore Alexa Keiser was the top finisher for the women's team with a 53rd-place time of 21:32.1, a PR for her career. Senior Arianna Wegienka crossed the finish line in 67th with a time of 21:43.1. Junior Lynsey Amthor recorded a PR as she placed 134th with a time of 22:28.8. Freshman Karissa Picard set a PR of 22:52.9 when she placed 172nd. At the same time,s ophomore Jenna Picard (22:55.7) was 176th. Senior Lauren Buckner timed in at 22:56.6 to put 179th, and sophomore Kailee Sandoval finished up the women's times with a PR of 23:02.2 for 183rd.
