Men take 2nd, Women 4th at Midwest Regional

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams had an outstanding day at the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.

The Cardinals men earned an automatic bid to the NCAA DII Nationals Championships, finishing second as a team at the Midwest Regional. The SVSU women finished fourth, putting the team in a good position for an at-large bid for the National Championships.

On the men's side, Dayton Brown continued to lead the way, taking fifth overall with a time of 30:54.27 in the 10k race. Nick Bozarth was 16th for the Cardinals, followed by Thomas Hufton in 29th. The top five for the Cardinals was rounded out by Carson Hersch and Corey Bowers in 31st and 32nd, respectively.

Arianna Wegienka led the women with a fifth-place finish in the 6k race in a time of 21:43.50, earning an individual automatic bid to the NCAA DII National Championships. Alexa Keiser was 15th overall, followed by Lauren Buckner in 30th. Lynsey Amthor crossed the line in 48th, while Jenna Picard was 59th.

The NCAA DII National Championship Qualifiers will be announced on Monday. The event will take place on Dec. 2 at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Wash.
