All-Conference Performers Pace SVSU at 2022 GLIAC Cross Country Championships

NEW BOSTON, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University produced seven all-conference performances as the Cardinals finished in second place with 61 points in the men's race and third with 91 points on the women's side at Friday's 2022 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Wayne State University.

Junior Dayton Brown crossed the finish line first for SVSU and was second overall with a clocking of 24 minutes and 26.01 seconds on the 8-kilometer course at Willow Metropark, earning all-conference first team accolades. In addition, four teammates made second-team All-GLIAC including sophomores Thomas Hufton (11th, 24:57.06), Carson Hersch (15th, 25:11.91); Nick Bozarth (18th, 25:23.28), and freshman Dominic Suliman (22nd, 25:33.63).

For the SVSU women, senior Arianna Wegienka led the way with a 6K time of 21:44.70 which was good for sixth place overall to reap first-team all-conference honors. Her teammate sophomore Alexa Keiser was recognized All-GLIAC Second Team after placing 13th in 22:03.63.

Grand Valley State University swept both the team titles (men – 28 points; women – 15) and individual crowns (Tanner Chada, 23:56.85; Natalie Graber, 21:04.77).

Up next, SVSU will begin preparations for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha. That will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19.
