SVSU takes 5th, Brown wins overall race at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams both placed fifth at Saturday's Lewis University Crossover. The Cardinals tallied 108 points in the 23-team men's standings, and they scored 146 points in the women's standings which had 20 schools.

The SVSU men were led by overall winner Dayton Brown as the junior had a top clocking of 23 minutes and 43.90 seconds. Also posting top-50 finishes were sophomores Thomas Hufton (11th, 24:25.6), Carson Hersch (26th, 24:43.3), Nick Bozarth (29th, 24:48.2) and freshman Corey Bowers (45th, 24:57.0).

For the women, senior Arianna Wegienka (21:50.7) and sophomore Alexa Keiser (21:57.9) both enjoyed top-10 showings of eighth and ninth place, respectively, out of 188 individuals. Rounding out the Cardinals' team score were junior Lauren Buckner (22:31.1, 26th), freshman Karissa Picard (22:53.9, 42nd) and junior Lynsey Amthor (23:21.3, 63rd).

Colorado Christian University out of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference swept the team titles as the women won with 68 points while the men had 47.

Saginaw Valley will be idle next Saturday to prepare for the Oct. 22 Oct. 22 Wayne State Invitational at Willow Metropark in New Boston, Mich.
