Veale leads four Cardinals honored by GLIAC

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team had four players earn Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors on Saturday.

Sarah Veale was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year. The Fowler, Mich. native appeared in 23 matches for the Cardinals this season. She recorded 111 kills for an average of 2.18 kills per set. She also tallied 46 digs and 13 blocks for SVSU at the outside hitter position. 

Earning Second Team All-GLIAC honors were Rylee Zimmer and Haley Clum. Zimmer appeared in all 27 matches for the Cardinals this year. The sophomore from Unionville, Mich. recorded 218 kills for an average of 2.27 per set. She registered 684 total attacks and also had 157 digs along with 91 blocks. Zimmer had an average of 1.64 digs per set and ranked fourth in the conference with 0.95 blocks per set. 

Clum, a native of Grosse Ile, Mich., earned All-GLIAC honors for the second time in her career. She appeared in every match and recorded 177 kills. The senior also had a .251 hitting percentage and registered 454 total attacks and 104 total blocks. 

Peyton Gerstacker earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC for SVSU. The native of Midland, Mich. appeared in all 27 matches this season at the setter position. She recorded 883 assists this season and 281 digs. Gerstacker also had 15 service aces for the Cardinals this season. 

SVSU finished the season with a 16-11 overall record and an 8-7 mark in GLIAC play under head coach Will Stanton.
