UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – After falling behind by two sets, the Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team made a furious comeback against Wayne State University Friday at the Hamilton Gymnasium.

The Cardinals dropped the first two sets 25-18 and 25-23, as the Warriors took control of the match. SVSU countered with a 25-21 win in the third and controlled the fourth set 25-17. SVSU once again needed to rally in the fifth after Wayne State jumped in front 7-2.

The Cardinals evened the match at 8-8 and led 13-12 before the Warriors scored three straight points to end the match with a 15-13 win in the final set. The loss ends a three-match winning streak for the Cardinals and drops SVSU to 16-8 overall and 7-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Madison Thompson led four Cardinals that finished with double-digit kills with a team-high 15. Rylee Zimmer added a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs to go along with six block assists. Haley Clum finished with 11 kills and a team-high seven block assists, while Sarah Veale added 11 kills and four total blocks.

Peyton Gerstacker added 38 assists and 12 digs, to go along with five block assists and one solo block. Kelsey Vittitow recorded a team-high 20 digs for SVSU.

The Cardinals hit .176 as a team and had 15 total blocks at the net in the loss.

SVSU remains home to host the final two matches of the regular season, starting against GLIAC frontrunner Michigan Tech at 7 pm next Friday at the Hamilton Gymnasium.
