Women's Track Competes at Azusa Pacific and Grand Valley State

AZUSA, Calif. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's track & field student-athletes completed the track events at the 2014 Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational as well as the field events at the GVSU Al Owens Classic.

The story of the day out of Cougar Stadium in Azusa, Calif. was the Lady Cardinals' first-place finish in the women's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:52.67. Running out of the first section for SVSU were the student-athletes of Savonne Roberson, Diamond Taylor, Ola Hendler and Kimberly Balls.

From Saginaw Valley's first-place finishing team, Taylor also clocked a 56.91 in the first section of the women's 400 meter dash, and Roberson crossed the line second with a time of 12.70 in the eighth section of the 100 meter dash. 

Rounding out the top Cardinal finishers were Domonique Smith, who posted a third section time of 12.51 in the 100 meter dash, and Micale Christina, who ran an 11:21 in section one of the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

The SVSU women's track & field team also completed the field events in the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.

The Saginaw Valley women's track & field team finished the field events in second place with a score of 12 points. Fourteen total teams competed at the event.

The top Lady Cardinal performers were Anna Fochesato, Emerald Joiner and Cady Sandel. Fochesato finished the triple jump in third place with a distance of 11.02 meters. Joiner placed fourth in the hammer throw with a top throw of 50.70 meters, a provisional qualifying mark. And, Sandel executed a 32.79 meter javelin throw, which was good for a fourth place finish.
