Bajis and Kelly Named NCAA DII CCA All-Midwest Region

NASHVILLE – Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer players Madi Bajis and Solana Kelly both were named to the 2023 NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Midwest Region Second Team.

Bajis is a sophomore midfielder in her second season with the program. She also was named Second Team All-GLIAC having a career season of six goals and three assists for 15 points improving on all of those stats from last season. Head coach Tyler Channell said this about Bajis,

"Madi really came onto the scene this season proving she is a top midfielder in our conference and in the region. She was fantastic all season in her ability to defend and attack for us. Madi was our leader in points with six goals and three assists."

Kelly is a junior defender in her third year with the program. She was also named to First Team All-GLIAC earlier this year with a career-high of three goals this season and one assist with one of her goals being a tying goal in the final minute against Northern Michigan. From the defender position, Kelly had nine shots and seven on goal for a shooting percentage of .333 and a shots on goal percentage of .778. Channell had this to say about Kelly,

"Solana's presence on the field is known every single game and is able to shut down top forwards in our conference on a consistent basis. She has proven to be a top defender in the conference since her freshman year."

Communication professionals from across the NCAA Division II Midwest Region nominated candidates for each of the four position categories and then specifically nominated student-athletes for consideration for player of the year. Once the nomination process concluded, school and conference communication professionals from across the region voted for the wo DII CCA Midwest Region teams. The Midwest region is made up of member schools from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The DII CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.
