Four Cardinals honored with GLIAC Postseason Awards

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team is set for its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinal matchup on Friday.

The GLIAC announced its postseason awards on Thursday, with several Cardinals receiving awards from the conference.

Leading the Cardinals on the All-GLIAC First Team were Stephanie Strong and Amy Babon. After being named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year in 2021, Strong followed up with an outstanding sophomore season that saw her lead the Cardinals with eight goals. The Howell, Mich., native added three assists and had two game-winning goals for SVSU.

Babon has put together a strong final season for the Cardinals, playing and starting in all 19 games for SVSU. She has three goals and four assists. The award is the second All-GLIAC honor of her career.

The Cardinals added defender Solana Kelly on the second team, the first All-GLIAC award for the sophomore. Brianna Cobbs made the All-GLIAC Team as an Honorable Mention for SVSU.

The Cardinals take on Northern Michigan University in the GLIAC Semifinals hosted by Grand Valley State University at 3 pm on Friday in Allendale, Mich.
