SVSU closes regular season with 3-1 win over Ferris State

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team closed the 2022 regular season with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Ferris State University on Friday at Braddock Field.

The Cardinals scored three goals in the first half and held on for a 3-1 win. The victory sends SVSU to the GLIAC Postseason Tournament with a record of 10-5-3 overall and 8-4-2 in the GLIAC.

Sarah Fredrick opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a goal on an assist from Rileigh Garbarz. FSU answered back in the 27th minute to tie the game with a goal from Nikki May.

The Cardinals went back in front just over a minute later on a goal from Olivia Cogo with an assist to Amy Babon. Jessie Falloon doubled the advantage moments before the break with a goal. Sophia Zalucki earned the assist in the Falloon goal.

The Bulldogs registered seven shots on goal in the second half but were unable to cut into the SVSU lead ad the Cardinals held on for the win. FSU held a 17-12 advantage in shots and led corner kicks 7-4.

Kennedi Pugh made six saves for the Cardinals in net.

The Cardinals begin play in the GLIAC Postseason Tournament with the time, location, and opponent to be determined. The GLIAC Postseason Tournament starts on November 1.
