SVSU falls to MTU on Senior Day

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team welcomed Michigan Tech for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest for Senior Day on Sunday at Braddock Field.

The Cardinals honored seniors Ally Gaunt, Kylie Lukowski, Olivia Cogo, and Amy Babon in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

The Cardinals took the lead in the first half, but the Huskies rallied for a 2-1 win with two second-half goals. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for SVSU and drops the Cardinals to 9-5-3 overall and 7-4-2 in the GLIAC with one game remaining in the regular season.

Gabby Green got the scoring started to put SVSU up 1-0 in the 12th minute on an unassisted goal.

MTU tied the game at 1-1 in the 57th minute on a goal from Julia Pietila and took the lead less than 12 minutes later and held on the rest of the way.

SVSU lead 15-12 in shots, but Gracie VanLangevelde made nine saves in net for the Huskies.

Ally Gaunt got the start in net for the Cardinals on Senior Day but was substituted shortly after the opening whistle with Kennedi Pugh playing the rest of the way. Pugh made three saves in the loss.

The Cardinals close the regular season with a home matchup against Ferris State University at 1 pm on Friday at Braddock Field.
