SVSU escapes Ferris State with 1-1 draw

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team scored a second-half goal to salvage a draw on the road at Ferris State University on Friday in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Cardinals fell behind early and battled the rest of the way to get back even with a goal in the 70th minute to earn a 1-1 tie with the Bulldogs. The result moves SVSU to 5-3-4 overall and 3-2-3 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State took the lead in the sixth minute on a goal from Isabella Zamborini with an assist from Lindsay Cole.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the home team until Stephanie Strong netted her fifth goal of the season with 20 minutes to play. Amy Babon earned the assist on the goal for the Cardinals.

Neither team was able to find the game-winner down the stretch with the contest ending in a tie.

Ferris State held the advantage in shots at 19-13 and 8-6 in corner kicks.

Lainey Garbarz entered the game in net for SVSU in the 17th minute and made two saves.

The Cardinals have a week off to prepare for a road matchup at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 12 pm next Friday in Kenosha, Wis.
