Wildcats top Cardinals 4-1 in GLIAC contest

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Northern Michigan University scored two goals in each half to hand the Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team its first road loss of 2022 on Sunday afternoon, 4-1, at NMU Soccer Field.

With their first defeat in four road contests (1-1-2), the visiting Cardinals fall to 3-3-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Wildcats move to 7-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the GLIAC.

How it Happened:

  • Molly Pistorius tallied her fourth goal of the season on a pass from Maria Storm to give Northern Michigan a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.
  • Storm gave NMU a 2-0 advantage late in the first half.
  • With NMU leading 3-0, SVSU spoiled the shutout in the 61st minute on a nice combination play between Amy Babon and Carlee Davis who found Stephanie Strong for her second goal.
  • Pistorius picked up her second assist of the afternoon on a late NMU goal to end the game.

  • The Wildcats also prevailed in corner kicks (6-1) and shots (11-6).
  • Strong tops the Cardinals with six points and is tied with Rileigh Garbarz for the team lead with two goals.

Saginaw Valley returns home to the IM Soccer Field next weekend when the Cardinals entertain GLIAC opponents Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday and Purdue Northwest on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.
