Walsh escapes with 1-0 win over SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team opened the home portion of the 2022 schedule against Walsh University on Friday at the SVSU IM Field.

The No. 24 Cardinals controlled the number of chances throughout the match, but a first-half goal from the Cavaliers held up as Walsh escaped with the 1-0 win. The loss is the first of the season for the Cardinals, dropping SVSU to 1-1-1 overall.

After a flurry of chances for SVSU in the first half, Walsh was able to break through on the other end on a goal from Hannah Stein in the 31st minute.

SVSU was able to keep the pressure on the rest of the game, however, the equalizer never came. Stephanie Strong led the SVSU offense with five shots, while Amy Babon took three. Kennedi Pugh (0-1-1) took the loss in net for the Cardinals, making five saves.

Romina Parraquez stopped 11 shots for the Cavaliers.

SVSU outshot Walsh 19-9 while leading the corner kicks 8-0.

The Cardinals look to bounce back with a matchup against Ohio Dominican University at 1 pm Sunday at the SVSU IM Field.
