Cardinals settle for 0-0 draw in opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team opened the 2022 season with a matchup at Truman State University on Friday in Kirksville, Mo.

The Cardinals controlled the chances but were unable to find the net, settling for a 0-0 tie to start the campaign.

Kennedi Pugh got the start in net for the Cardinals (0-0-1), the first of her career, and earned the shutout, making one save as the SVSU defense stifled the Bulldog offense.

The Cardinal offense was led by reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year Stephanie Strong with three shots, including two on goal. Sarah Fredrick added two shots. SVSU led the total shots 11-5, while TSU took three corner kicks compared to two for the Cardinals.

Tatumn Damron made five saves in net for the Bulldogs, keeping the Cardinals off the board.

SVSU will look to break through against Quincy University at 2:30 pm on Sunday in Quincy, Ill.
