Three Outdoor Records Broken During Three-Meet Weekend

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – Three outdoor records were broken by the Saginaw Valley State University track and field team over the weekend. The Cardinals had members of the men's and women's teams competing in three different meets in two states from Thursday through Saturday.

All three records were broken during the Clark Wood Invite hosted by the University of Louisville on Friday and Saturday. Cheyenne Nesbitt set a new program mark in the 100m hurdles winning with a time of 13.32 seconds to finish first in the preliminary heats. Alona Olshevska set a new record in the 400m with a time of 53.39 to win the race.  The final broken record came in the 4x100 relay where Olshevska and Nesbitt were joined by Sophia Thelen and Angelina Delbosque to finish third with a new best of 45.72 seconds.

The weekend got started on April 25 at the GVSU Extra Weekend meet in Allendale, Michigan. Alexa Keiser, Andrew Quinn, and Dominic Suliman all reached NCAA Division II provisional marks as well as personal bests at the meet. Keiser won the steeplechase with her provisional PR of 10:27.04. Quinn placed third in the shot put with a provisional throw of 16.82m. Quinn set a new PR in the hammer of 49.35m to finish 10th in the standings. Dominic Suliman was fifth in the 1500 with a PR and provisional time of 3:45.36.

In Louisville, the women's 4x400 relay team consisting of Trinity Greer, Olshevska, Cassie Campbell, and Nesbitt won the race with a time of 3:44.71.

Nesbitt also added a third-place showing in the long jump with a best leap of 6.08m, while Olshevska placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.22.

Campbell set a new PR in the 400m hurdles with a fourth-place time of 1:01.44.

On the men's side, Trevor Culpepper hit a PR in the 100m with a time of 10.49 to earn seventh place. Quin Broussard finished eighth in the 200m with a PR of 21.65.

The final stop for the Cardinals this weekend was the CUAA Legacy hosted by Concordia University Ann Arbor. SVSU had eight wins at the meet along with eight new PRs set.

Alex Stoll won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.20. Nate Niederquell finished atop the 400m hurdles after setting a new PR of 56.75 in the event. Makayla Fuerst won the women's 400m hurdles with a finish of 1:06.57. David Ferguson claimed the 800m with a time of 1:56.26. Ciera Weber won the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 3.65m. Autumn Morris finished first in the triple jump with a jump of 11.10m. The women's 4x100 relay team of Autumn Morris, Taylor Moyer, MaKayla Williams, and Alicia Fields crossed the finish line first with a time of 48.56. The 4x800 relay team of Cody Aldridge, Lukas Kriesch, Wyatt Miller, Tyler Bays won in 8:11.32.

The 4x800 relay team of Theo Lange, Caleb Smith, Luke Burns, Dakota Dykhuis placed second with a finish of 8:27.85. Alicia Fields was second in the 100m with a finish of 12.33. Grace Collett was a runner-up in the 100m hurdles after a PR of 14.77. Seth Oxer placed second in the 400m hurdles after a finish of 57.72. Tyler Bays was second in the 1500 with a PR of 4:02.43. Ericka Jackson was the final second-place finisher with a throw of 12.69m in the shot put.

Jenna Picard was third in the 400m with a time of 1:00.99. Lukas Ray had two top-five finishes with third in the shot put (14.52m) and fourth in the discus (42.55m). The 4x400 relay team with David Ferguson, Landon Mars, Ashton Sheline, Jaron Wyma was third with a time of 3:28.58.

The 4x400 relay of Wynter Burnett, Rodney Zimmerman, Chris Holt, and Ryan Brenner was fourth with a finish of 3:29.21. Taylor Moyer finished fourth in the 200m with a PR of 26.20 and was fifth in the 100m with a finish of 12.44. Mallory Farmer placed fourth in the 400m after a finish of 1:01.80. She was also ninth in the 200m with a time of 26.67. Jaron Wyma finished fourth in the 800m after crossing the finish line in 2:03.22. Dakota Dykhuis placed fourth in the 1500 after a time of 4:03.00. Wynther Burnett had a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.11m.

Ryan Brenner set a new PR in the discus with a throw of 41.00m to place fifth in the event. Landon Mars was also fifth with a PR of 4:08.70 in the 1500. Ashton Sheline was fifth in the 800m after setting a PR of 2:04.39. Christian Purchase-Ofoeme finished fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.69. Tyler Burrell was the final top-five finisher for SVSU with his time of 51.35 in the 400m.
