Cardinals Open Outdoor Season with Six Wins at IWU Polar Bear Invitational

MARION, IND. – The outdoor track and field season began on Saturday with the Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field squad competing at the Indiana Wesleyan University Polar Bear Invitational.

Andrew Quinn led the way for both teams with three top-five finishes for the afternoon. He won the shot put with an NCAA DII provisional mark of 16.70m. Quinn placed second with a throw of 43.94m in the discus. He completed his day with a fourth-place finish in the hammer with a toss of 47.55m. Shane Siterlet joined Quinn as one of four SVSU men's team members to win an event. Siterlet finished first in the 800m with a time of one minute and 57.65 seconds. Jacob Walker won the 10k after finishing in 30:48.94. Seth Oxer clocked a 58.10 seconds finish in the 400 hurdles to win the race.

The women's 4x100 relay team consisting of Mallory Farmer, Taylor Moyer, MaKayla Williams, and Alicia Fields won the race after crossing the finish line in 49.74 seconds. Ericka Jackson won the javelin throw after a heave of 38.05m. She was also sixth in the discus with a throw of 37.60m.

Jenna Picard placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:21.34. Picard also finished seventh in the 1500 with a finish of 4:56.08.

Grace Harkenrider finished third in the 800m after a finish of 2:22.60. Harkenrider registered a top-10 finish in the 1500 after finishing the race in 4:58.46 for eighth. Makayla Fuerst tallied third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.79.

Ciera Weber cleared the bar in the pole vault at 3.65m to finish fourth in the event. Farmer placed fifth in the 400m after clocking a 1:02.01 in the event for the final top-five finish for the Cardinal women.

On the men's side, Clarence Corbett had a throw of 15.20m in the shot put to finish second. Adam Thomas was second in the 10k after crossing the finish line at 30:55.11. Rodney Zimmerman was the final runner-up for the Cardinals with a time of 53.17 in the 400m.

Nolan Berg placed third in the discus with a best throw of 43.53m. Berg also had a top-five performance in the shot put after a throw of 14.61m placed him fifth. Nate Niederquell was third in the 400 hurdles after a time of 58.51.

Three SVSU men's student-athletes grabbed fourth-place finishes. Cameron Sherrill finished the 800m in 1:59.07 for one of those marks. Zach deBeauclair claimed fourth in the steeplechase after a time of 9:59.91, and Lukas Ray threw the shot put 15.13m for his fourth-place finish.

Lukas Kriesch was the final top-five finisher with a fifth-place time of 33:03.29 in the 10k.
