Four Cardinals Compete on Day One of NCAA DII Indoor National Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Four of the eight members of the Saginaw Valley State University track and field team competed on the opening day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships.

Ryan Brenner sits in 10th after the first day of the men's heptathlon with a score of 2,964 points after four events. He currently trails the leader by 384 points with three events to go tomorrow.

Dominic Suliman qualified for the men's mile final after finishing eighth overall in the preliminary round with a time of 4:12.44, the finals for that event are scheduled for tomorrow (March 9) at 6:40 p.m. Suliman finished 16th in the men's 800m preliminary round with a time of 1:55.49.

Alona Olshevska won her heat in the women's 400m preliminaries with a time of 54.54 seconds. She finished 11th overall in the combined results. She placed 12th during the preliminaries of the women's 200m with a time of 24.16.

Alexa Keiser finished 17th overall in the preliminaries of the women's mile after crossing the finish line in 4:59.55. That time wasn't enough to push her through to the finals on day two.

Day two of the meet will conclude with seven Cardinals scheduled to compete. Suliman has the men's mile finals and Brenner will finish out the heptathlon. The women's 4x400 relay team consisting of Trinity Greer, Cassandra Campbell, Sophia Thelen, and Olshevska will close out the weekend at 9:00 p.m.
