Cardinals Collect Several Titles and Awards on Day Two of GLIAC Indoor Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams concluded the two-day GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals finished the meet with four more conference championships, another school record, and three individual awards.

The women's team finished the meet in second place in the team standings after compiling 93 points. The men were also second with a two-day total of 111 points. Grand Valley State University won both the women's and men's team championships. Northern Michigan finished third for the women while Davenport claimed third on the men's side.

Alona Olshevska won both the 60m dash with a time of 7.62 seconds and the 200m with a time of 24.07 in the finals race to claim two GLIAC titles. Her performance had her named the Women's Track Athlete of the Meet as well as the Women's High Point Athlete of the Meet.

Dominic Suliman earned the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet award after setting a new school record in the 800 at 1:50.17 and winning the event for his second championship of the meet after helping the men's DMR win on day one.

Christian Purchase-Ofoeme won the men's heptathlon with a final tally of 4484. On his way to the title he set PRs in the long jump with a leap of 6.62m and the 60m dash with a 7.47. He was named the Men's Field Freshman of the Meet.

Cassandra Campbell was also crowned a GLIAC champion after winning the 60 hurdles in 8.63 seconds. Campbell also earned a PR in the event during the preliminaries after clocking an 8.61.

Ciera Weber made it to the podium for the women's pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.70m to earn second place.

Grace Collett was a top-three finisher in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.77 to reach the third-place podium in the event. Trinity Greer was a third-place finisher for the Cardinals with her PR of 56.82 in the 400. Alexa Keiser completed the list of medalists on the women's side with her 9:37.99 time in the 3K.

Quin Broussard and Trevor Culpepper both reached the podium for the men. Broussard finished second in the 200m with a time of 21.93. Broussard also had a top-five finish in the 60m dash after achieving a PR of 6.92 to get fifth. Culpepper was third in both the 60m dash and the 200m. He crossed the finish line in 6.88 seconds in the 60m and 21.99 in the 200.

Olivia Carpenter was fourth in the 800m with a PR of 2:36.20. Carpenter hit PRs in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.15, the long jump at 4.99m, and the pentathlon with her final score of 3066.

Just Rose finished fourth in the men's mile run with a PR of 4:12.34. Andrew Quinn was the final top-five performer on the men's side with a throw of 16.74m in the shot put.

Angelina Delbosque was the final top-five finisher for the women's team with her 25.06 finish in the 200m.

Men's and women's qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships will gear up for the National Meet that begins on Friday, March 11 and runs through Saturday, March 12.
