Track and Field Wraps Up Season on Final Day of NCAA Outdoor National Competition

PUEBLO, Co. – The Saginaw Valley State University Track and Field Teams wrapped up their season this evening on the third and final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Competing on the final day was Andrew Quinn in the Shot Put, Trevin Phillips in the Javelin Throw, and Cheyenne Williamson in the 100m Hurdles.

TREVIN PHILLIPS – Javelin Throw, 15th Place

Phillips is the new school record holder in the event after an impressive showing earlier this month at the Cal State LA Twilight meet. 64.51m was the previous mark. Today, Phillips launched his javelin his short of that mark for a throw of 61.44m on his third attempt. Phillips is a first time performer at the NCAA Championships and will look to improve on his school record in his senior season.

ANDREW QUINN – Shot Put, 19th Place

Quinn was one of the few freshman participants at the NCAA Championships this week and is the current school record holder in the shot put as shown earlier this season at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships earlier this month. Quinn would fall short of this feat at the National Stage but gained great experience after tossing 16.41m and placing 19th overall. Quinn will look to build on his impressive freshman campaign over his next three seasons.

CHEYENNE WILLIAMSON – 100m Hurdles, 7th Place, All-American

Williamson capped off her extremely impressive campaign with a seventh-place finish in the 100m Hurdles this afternoon. Williamson score two additional points for the Cardinals adding her total for the meet up to 23, capping off her week with a time of 13.51 (0.07 short of her school record). Needless to say, it is one of the greatest individual performances by an SVSU athlete to date.
