3-PEAT: Williamson Claims Two Titles on Day 2 of NCAA Championships

PUEBLO, Co. – Two athletes competed for Saginaw Valley State University today on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The women's team currently sits in third place overall with 21 points and the men's sits 34th place with one point. Cheyenne Williamson and Ryan Brenner were the participants today for the Cardinals. Both Williamson and Brenner earned All-American honors. Highlighting the honors for the third year in a row was Williamson earning her title as the national champion in the Heptathlon. Brenner highlighted his national's performance with an eighth-place finish earning his All-American Honors in his first year with the team.

 

CHEYENNE WILLIAMSON – NATIONAL CHAMPION, HEPTATHLON & HIGH JUMP; QUALIFIER IN 100M HURDLES

Williamson has done it again, repeating for the third time as national champion in the NCAA Division II heptathlon. Her 5861-point performance not only dethrones her old school record of 5,757 points, but it also places her fourth all-time in NCAA Division II. The win for Williamson comes off an immaculate performance where she did not place outside of the top three in every event except one. The win also means that SVSU has claimed every title in the event since 2019.

 

The performances for Williamson are listed below:

100m Hurdles – 13.56 – 1st Place – 1041 points

High Jump – 1.74m – 2nd Place – 903 points

Shot Put – 11.87m – 3rd Place – 653 points

200M – 23.83 – 1st Place – 997 points

Long Jump – 6.24m – 1st Place – 924 points

Javelin Throw – 32.73m – 10th Place – 528 points

800m – 2:20.61 – 2nd Place – 815 points

 

Williamson's High Jump mark of 1.77m (5'9.75") earned her the victory this afternoon in the event. This is Williamson's second championship crown of the meet bringing in all of the team's 21 points. While the mark falls one-inch short of her current school record of 5'10.75", Williamson continues to impress. This is her fourth national championship in the last three years.

 

RYAN BRENNER -  ALL-AMERICAN, 8TH PLACE, DECATHALON

Brenner, a freshman, earned All-American honors with an eighth place finish in the decathlon and battled right along the cut-line for the entire event, placing anywhere from as high as 13th place to as low as sixth. Brenner was able to earn the first honors for SVSU in the event since Sam Black last season.

100m – 11.27 – 8th place – 801 points

Long Jump – 6.57m – 14th place – 713 points

Shot Put – 13.62m – 3rd place – 705 points

High Jump – 1.92m – 7th place – 731 points

400m – 49.22 – 2nd place – 851 points

110m Hurdles – 15.48 – 11th place – 792 points

Discus Throw – 39.62m – 6th place – 657 points

Pole Vault – 4.20m – 8th place – 673 points

Javelin Throw – 54.88m – 3rd place – 661 points

1500m – 4:57.97 – 8th place - 571 points

 

UP NEXT

Williamson will compete in the 100m Hurdles tomorrow after qualifying in them today with the fourth fastest time. Andrew Quinn and Trevin Phillips will compete in the shot put and javelin throw respectively tomorrow. Both men are school record holders in the respective events and will look to reach All-American status tomorrow.
