Cardinals Compete at Oakland Last Chance Meet

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University Track and Field team traveled to Oakland University to compete in the Oakland Last Chance Meet on May 11. Three men and nine women made the trip with their coaching staff. Many Cardinals looked to compete one last time for the season whereas others looked to improve their NCAA Provisional Marks. 

MEN'S TEAM

Tyler Burrell competed in section one of the 400m dash clocking a sub-50 time of 49.66 seconds. The time falls short of the personal record that Burrell set in the prelims at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Meet just last week. Quin Broussard fell short of the finals in the 100m dash, placing sixth in preliminaries. Cooper Lenzi capped off his career with one final run in the 5000m, placing third with a time of 15:41.31. The third place finish was the highest of the season for Lenzi.

WOMEN'S TEAM

The 4x100 team competed and hit an NCAA Provisional Mark, the team consisting of Sophia Thelen, Angelina Delbosque, Cassandra Campbell, and Cheyenne Williamson ran 46.43 to achieve the mark. The Cardinals' best mark of the season is just one one-hundredth of a second faster at 46.42. The relays kept working for SVSU and the 4x400 team of Kelsey Landra, Cassandra Campbell, Lauren Buckner, and Cheyenne Williamson hit their provisional mark for the season finals. The team ran a time of 3:46.02 which is the fastest mark of the season In addition to the relay teams, Alexa Keiser conquered the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:28.35 for a new personal best and NCAA Provisional Mark. Keiser finished second place in the race as well. Rounding out the evening for the team was Karissa Picard in the 800m run where she clocked a time of 2:20.44 which placed her in sixth.
