Women's Track and Field Sits Third After Day 2 of GLIAC Championships

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Track and Field team sits in third after the first full day of competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Davenport University.

FINALS

Decathlon

Kelsey Landra and Olivia Carpenter competed in the heptathlon for the women's team. Landra won the 100m hurdles, 200m, long jump, and the 800m sections of the heptathlon landing her with the Bronze behind Lindsey Strutz (Grand Valley State) and Annabelle Schafer (Davenport). Carpenter battled hard for the team and finished with in fifth place which landed crucial points for the overall score.

10,000 Meter

Lynsey Amthor continued her impressive outdoor season with a second place finish. Amthor clocked 36:42.46 picking up eight points for the team score.

Javelin

Junior, Cheyenne Williamson picked up four points in the event with a toss of 32.96m (108' 2") on her second attempt.

Hammer

Senior, MacKenzie Ramey finished fourth in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 50.26m (164' 11"). Ramey picked up five points for the team with her performance.

Long Jump

Williamson continued her dominance on the track, picking up five points in the long jump with a fourth place finish leaping to 5.61m (18' 4.75") on her second-to-last attempt.

 

PRELIMS

1500m

The 1500 meter race saw three SVSU runners qualify for the finals tomorrow in Alexa Keiser, Lauren Buckner, and Mikenna Borie who finished in placed of 6, 7, 10 with times of 4:42.41, 4:42.44, and 4:51.53 respectively.

100m Hurdles

The prelims for the 100 hurdles also saw a flock of Cardinals that will make it to the finals tomorrow. Cheyenne Williamson, Cassandra Campbell, and Hanna Schroeder all qualified with first, second, and sixth place finishes.

100m Run

Two runners earned their place in the finals for tomorrows 100-meter race. Angelina Delbosque placed second in qualifying and was joined by Sophia Thelen who placed sixth.

800m Run

Lauren Buckner will also find herself in the 800m finals tomorrow as the lone SVSU runner. Buckner finished fourth in the qualifying rounds where she moved up three places in the final 400 of the race to secure her spot.

400m Hurdles

Two Cardinals will represent in the 400m hurdles tomorrow as well; Cassandra Campbell and Makayla Furst. The two lady Cards were able to secure their places with second and ninth place finishes.

200m Run

Three runners picked up qualifying marks. Cheyenne Williamson, Angelina Delbosque, and Sophia Thelen place of 1, 3, and 8 respectively to reach the finals tomorrow afternoon.
