Track and Field Competes at Elaine Leigh Invitation in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team traveled to Oakland University on Friday to compete in the Elaine Leigh Invitational. In addition, Lauren Buckner traveled to Eastern Kentucky University to compete in the 1500m run.

On the women's side of the meet the Cardinals got things started with a seventh-place finish from Sophia Thelen in the 100m dash clocking 12.76 seconds in the short sprint. Thelen would then go on to compete in the 200m dash as well which she found herself with a sixth-place finish. To cap off the meet for the women's team, the 4x100m relay squad of Autumn Morris, Angelina Delbosque, Cassandra Campbell, and Taylor Moyer took a third-place finish in a highly competitive race. The relay team finished just one-one hundredth of a second behind second place Northern Michigan, and just four-one hundredths of a second behind the first-place team out of Wayne State.

For the men's squad, Quinn Broussard got things started with a second-place finish in the 200m dash running 22.67. Broussard joined Nathan Furst, KJ Jackson II and Kabanu Witherspoon on the 4x100 team which clocked a 42.47 good for a second-place finish as well. Seth Oxer kept things rolling on his impressive outdoor season so far with another second-place finish in the 400m hurdles clocking 55.39 seconds in the race. For the field events, Nolan Berg led the way to another second-place finish for the Cardinals in the discus throw with a toss of 45.15m (148' 1"). Capping off the field events was Berg with a 14.95m (49' 0.75") toss in the shot put.

The track and field teams are off to Davenport University on April 28 and 29 to prep for the GLIAC Outdoor Championships on May 3.
