Track and Field Hosts the SVSU Tune-Up Meet

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team hosted the SVSU Tune-Up meet on February 17th. The meet consisted of 10 teams from around the state including other GLIAC schools.

Starting the meet off in field events for the Lady Cardinals in pole vault was Macey Emeott taking home the crown with a vault of 3.30m. While on the men's side, Deven Varela and Wilson Tschirhart shared the victory vaulting 4.20m. Autumn Morris won the triple jump, leaping 10.27m. Andrew Quinn took fourth in the weight throw for the men with a toss of 15.48m.

The running events started with the 5000m run in which Carson Hersch took second place overall finishing in 14:38.27 while senior, Cooper Lenzi also posted a season best time for the squad. Clara Krupp finished fourth in the one-mile run for SVSU with a time of 5:26.11 while teammate, Kierstyn Stoin finished third in the 400m dash breaking the one-minute barrier with a time of 59.99. KJ Jackson II took third overall in the 60m dash finishing in 6.97 seconds while Autumn Morris took second place in her 60m finals. Kailee Sandoval finished third overall for SVSU in the 800m while on the men's side, Eric Niestroy finished second. Rounding out the meet for the Cards was MaKayla Williams in the 200m finishing third overall and posting a time of 26.95 seconds

The two squads are back in action next weekend in the GLIAC Conference Championships which will be hosted at the SVSU Fieldhouse/Doug Hansen Indoor Track.
