Keiser Leads the Way for Cardinals at Jets Pizza Invitational

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI – The Saginaw Valley State University Track and Field team hosted the Jets Pizza Invitational on Friday, January 27th and Saturday the 28th. The meet had many impressive marks for the Cardinals as they competed with 13 other schools in the biggest meet of their season.

Alexa Keiser earned the Jets Pizza Invitational Track athlete of the meet for her near school-record-breaking mark in the 3000-meter run. Keiser .2 finished two-tenths of a second short of the school record with a time of 9:42.32. Thomas Hufton finished his 3000m run with an NCAA Division two provisional qualifying time of 8:15.57 beating the qualifying time by four seconds.

On the women's side of the meet, sophomore, Karissa Picard posted a new personal record in the 800m run with a time of 2:15.71 and finished second overall. Her teammate, Kailee Sandoval also finished in the top-10 with a seventh-place finish. In the 3000m, Lauren Buckner and Lynsey Amthor finished in the top-ten with times of 9:56.68 and 10:03.69 respectively. Cassandra Campbell and Hanna Schroeder won the 60m Hurdle races for the Cardinalsl while the 4x400 relay team consisting of Campbell, Sophia Thelen, Taylor Moyer, and Trinity Greer took third.

For the men, highlights of the meet included Trevor Culpepper finishing third for Saginaw Valley State in the 60m dash and setting a new season best with a time of 6.91 seconds. Tyler Burrell set a new personal best in the 400m race running 49.9 seconds. In the 1000m run, Ryan Brenner took home the win for the Cardinals in a time of 2:56.79, winning the race by over one second. Eric Niestroy also set a new personal record in the one-mile run finishing in 4:15.90. One of the biggest highlights of the meet for the men was the 3000m run, where seven Cardinals set new personal best times.

The Cardinals will be back in action next week on Saturday, February 4th in Marquette, MI to compete in the W-C-W Tri-Meet.
