Cardinals Have Five Wins and Set Eight Personal Records at Doug Hansen Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams hosted the Doug Hansen Open on Friday inside the SVSU Fieldhouse. The men's team saw three first-place finishes and six personal records set on the day. For the women, two athletes earned three victories, and two PRs were recorded.

Kabanu Witherspoon set a personal record in his 200-meter win after completing the race in 22.62 seconds. Deven Varela and Wilson Tschirhart tied for first in the pole vault after clearing the height of 4.25m. That mark is a season-best for Varela and a PR for Tschirhart.

Trevor Culpepper finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05. Nathan Furst placed second in the 60 hurdles final with a mark of 8.31. Andrew Quinn was the runner-up in the weight throw after a toss of 15.94m. Quinn also registered a PR heave of 15.38m in the shot put that placed him fourth in the final standings.

Alexander Stoll set a PR in the 60 hurdles after a third-place finish of 8.64. Cole Lewis and Evan Green were third and fourth in the 200-meters with times of 22.74 and 22.75.

Luke Burns published a PR in the 800 after his time of 1 minute, 59.23 seconds which earned him fourth in the event. Jalen Ford completed a PR jump of 10.41m in the triple jump to finish fourth on the afternoon.

On the women's side, Angelina Delbosque won the 60-meter dash with a PR of 7.82 and the 200-meter with a season-high of 25.24. Cassie Campbell was another winner for the SVSU women as she finished the 60 hurdles in 8.93.

Trinity Greer placed third in the 200 meters after a 25.56 finish. Macey Emeott cleared the pole vault bar at 2.90m to capture third place.

Mallory Farmer set a PR in the 400 meters after a time of 1:03.01, putting her in fourth place.

The SVSU track and field team will host the two-day Jet's Pizza Invitational next Friday and Saturday, January 27-28. The first day is set to begin at 1:15 p.m. with the multis.
