Track and Field Begins Season with SVSU Holiday Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley University track and field team began the indoor season with the SVSU Holiday Open inside the Ryder Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3.

The men's 4x400 relay A-team consisting of Ryan Mixon, Quin Broussard, Kabanu Witherspoon, and Tyler Burrell highlighted the meet with a win after a finish of 3 minutes, 22.49 seconds. Tyler Burrell set a personal record in the 600m after finishing in second with a time of 1:22.43.

Evan Green debuted for the Cardinals with a third-place showing in the 300m with a time of 35.84 seconds. Andrew Quinn and Ryan Brenner both debuted for SVSU with third-place finishes in their events. Quinn heaved the weight 16.34m for his third-place finish. He also had a fourth-place result in the shot put with a throw of 15.30m. Brenner was third in the heptathlon with 4,762 points. He won the shot put portion of the heptathlon with a toss of 15.30m. Deven Varela cleared the pole vault bar at 4.10m for third in the event. Finally, the 4x400 relay B-team, made up of Green, Trevor Culpepper, Rodney Zimmerman, and Seth Oxer, was third in the race after a time of 3:30.21.

Ryan Mixon set a PR in the 300m with a mark of 36.19 seconds was good enough for fourth place in the event. Freshman Alex Stoll was fourth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.65. Fellow freshman Wilson Tschirhart also finished fourth after a height of 3.95m in the pole vault in his debut. Braylon Silvas placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.77m.

Witherspoon helped the 4x400 relay A-team to the win while also finishing fifth in the 60m after clocking in at 6.96. Nolan Berg placed fifth in the shot put with a best throw of 14.83m. The final top-five finisher for the Cardinals was Clarence Corbett, who had a 15.40m weight throw.

On the women's side, Makayla Fuerst finished the 600m in 1:44.09 to place second while also helping the 4x400 relay A-team finish in the same place with a time of 4:08.31. Cassandra Campbell, Taylor Moyer, and Mallory Farmer joined Fuerst on the relay team. Campbell placed second as an individual in the 60 hurdles after a time of 8.91. MacKenzie Ramey finished second in the shot put and the weight throw with marks of 12.41m in the shot and 15.87m with the weight.

Chaniya Madison crossed the finish line in the 60m in 7.82 for third place. Angelina Delbosque was third in the 300m with a 41.39. The 4x400 Relay B-team consisting of Kierstyn Stoin, Chaniya Madison, MaKayla Williams, and Kayla Williams finished third with a time of 4:23.39.

MaKayla Williams finished fourth in the 300m with a time of 43.23. Hanna Schroeder was fourth in the 60 hurdles at 9.14. Kelsey Landra completed the pentathlon with 3,176 points for fourth place.

Autumn Morris and Kayla Williams rounded out the top-five finishers for the women with placings in the 60m and triple jump. Morris tracked an 8.01 in the 60m, while Kayla Williams marked an 8.96m in the triple jump.
