Cheyenne Williamson wins USTFCCCA Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2022 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Friday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Saginaw Valley State University junior Cheyenne Williamson was named the Women's Midwest Regional Field Athlete of the Year following her standout season. 

The native of Essexville, Mich., won her second straight national title in the pentathlon with 4292 points, setting a new NCAA DII record and beating the old record by nearly 100 points. She also earned All-American honors in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships as well and was the GLIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Field Athlete of the Meet, Field Athlete of the Year, and High-Point Athlete of the Meet after winning the GLIAC title in the pentathlon and finishing runner-up in the 200-meter dash at the GLIAC Championships. 

Williamson and the Cardinals open the outdoor season this weekend at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Invitational.
