Williamson wins Pentathlon, Cardinals open Jet's Pizza Invitational

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams hosted day one of the Jet's Pizza Invitational on Friday from the Ryder Center Fieldhouse. 

Women's Highlights:

  • Cheyenne Williamson won the pentathlon event with a score of 4051 points, setting a new SVSU Fieldhouse record. She won the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and long jump, and concluded the day with a second-place finish in the 800-meter run. 
  • Alona Olshevska earned the top seed in the 200-meter dash final after winning her preliminary heat with a time of 24.82 seconds. 
  • Cassandra Campbell and Hanna Schroeder qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final after posting times of 9.09 and 9.33 seconds.
  • Angelina Delbosque will run in the 60-meter dash finals on Saturday after running 7.93 seconds in prelims.

Men's Highlights:

  • Dan Westarb is currently in second place in the heptathlon with 2577 points and three events remaining. The senior will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run on Saturday.
  • Cavan Wilcox took second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.43 meters. Will Aldrich was fourth with a vault of 4.28 meters.
  • Cooper Lenzi was eighth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:26.98. 
  • Ryan Mixon and Tyler Burrell advanced to Saturday's 200-meter dash final after running 22.89 and 23.57 seconds.
  • Nathan Furst took third in the 60-meter hurdles prelims and qualified for Saturday's final with a time of 8.48.
