Cardinal Swim & Dive Have Big Day Three at GLIAC Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving program made up some ground in the GLIAC Championships Friday in Holland in day three of four. After day three, the Cardinals are in fifth overall with both the men and women in fifth as well.

Flora Mia Szklenar continues to impress as won the 200-yard fly. Szklenar finished in two minutes and 2.47 seconds besting the NCAA B cut time. Erin McDowell missed out on a B cut time by 0.85 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke. She finished fourth with a time of 57.03.

The men posted a GLIAC Championship best time but finished second in the event to Grand Valley State University. The team of Alejandro Robles Ruiz, Eric Slabbert, Logan Fox, and Almos Szedlak completed the 800-yard freestyle relay in 6:34.13. GVSU edged them out for first place, but both times were faster than the GLIAC Championship record of 6:34.45. Christian Rottier posted a B cut time in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing in 54.99, two-thirds of a second ahead of the time needed. Robles Ruiz tied for second in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 48.39. Szedlak also had a B cut finish as well. He completed the 500-yard freestyle in 4:33.53 which was 1.31 seconds faster than the mark.

SVSU women sit 78 points behind Davenport University and the men are 82 points behind Wayne State University.
