GLIAC – Saginaw Valley State University senior men's swimmer Alejandro Robles Ruiz was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's swimmer of the week when the league office announced the weekly award winners on Tuesday evening.

Alejandro Robles Ruiz had a record-setting week as he set benchmarks as a member of the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley, and 800-yard freestyle relay teams while also having success individually. Robles Ruiz helped set SVSU records as the last leg on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that registered a time of 1 minute, 20.63 seconds, the first leg of the 200-yard medley team that finished in 1:28.61, and the first leg in the 800-yard freestyle team that finished in 6:37.98. In addition, the senior from Granada, Spain, had a day individually, breaking SVSU records in the 100-backstroke (48.33 seconds) and 100-butterfly (47.84 seconds). He also won the 200-backstroke in 1:46.73.

This is the first conference weekly award for the Granada, Spain native's career. In addition, it is the third award for the SVSU men's swimming and diving team this season.

The team is scheduled to return to competing on Saturday, January 7, at Wayne State beginning at 1:00 PM.
