Cardinals Heading to Indianapolis for NCAA DII Softball Midwest Regional

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – The NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show took place this morning (May 6) at 10:00 AM, EST. Saginaw Valley State was given the fifth seed in the Midwest Region and will travel to Indianapolis.

The NCAA DII Softball Committee selected 64 teams to participate in the 2024 NCAA Division II Softball Championship. Four teams will participate in 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments, held May 9-11. Winners will advance to the super-regionals, slated for May 14-15. The finals will be held May 19-25 at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park and will be hosted by Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.

The SVSU softball team earned its third-straight GLIAC Tournament Championship yesterday after defeating top-seeded Grand Valley State twice. The Cardinals earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the victory and were awaiting today's announcement to know the destination.

SVSU has played seven of the teams selected to play in an NCAA DII Regional this postseason, but not any of the teams set to play in Indianapolis. The Cardinals are no stranger to Lewis, however, as the teams played each other twice in 2023 with the Flyers coming out on top in both of those matchups.

This is the third straight NCAA Regional berth for Saginaw Valley State. The Cardinals have made it to the Regional finals the last two seasons. SVSU's first contest in Indy is against Lewis on Thursday, May 9, at 1:30 PM EST.
