GLIAC names Popko Softball Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team swept six games last week, including four over the weekend against Wayne State University to extend the team's win streak to eight games.

Jackie Popko led the SVSU offense with an outstanding week at the plate and was named the latest Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Monday.

The Macomb, Mich., native batted .625 with 10 hits, a home run, eight RBIs, three doubles, a triple, scored seven runs, and stole two bases. This season, she is hitting .380 with 41 hits, three home runs, 29 runs scored, 20 stolen bases, and 17 RBIs.

The Cardinals have jumped to third place in the GLIAC standings with four regular-season games remaining. SVSU travels to Grand Valley State University for a doubleheader at 2 pm Tuesday in Allendale, Mich.
