HAMMOND, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer program fell in the GLIAC championship match 1-0 to Purdue Northwest. Shot totals were tied 8-8 with the Pride edging out the Cardinals 4-3 in shots on goal. Jonathan Monney led the team with three shots and one on goal, Elliot Nottoli had two shots with one on goal, Jayden Cameron had his lone shot find it's target, and Jason Squeo and Donna Kheswa both had a shot as well to wrap up the offense for SVSU.

Jack Simms started in goal saving three of the four shots on goal that he faced. The Cardinals pushed the pace to start developing chances off of early set pieces but couldn't find a shot on net until the second half. The Pride got their lone goal in the 30th minute of play with a cross being deflected out front and into the net. The five-minute stretch leading up to the Purdue Northwest goal was one of the few moments that the Pride controlled the match. Saginaw Valley continued to play a hard and gritty match to develop their offense.

In the second half, the chances multiplied for the Cardinals. Seven shots with three on goal for SVSU with two of their best chances just missing. One shot missed just over the top left corner by a foot and a second opportunity off a free kick hit off the crossbar late in the match. PNW had a chance to extend their lead as well, but Simms came up with a big save late on a 2-on-1 rush for the Pride. As the game intensified, the fouls and cards racked up. 17 fouls for SVSU and 15 for PNW with the Cardinals tallying four yellow cards and the Pride collecting two, split evenly amongst the two halves. As the clock ticked down and Saginaw Valley was pushing for the tying goal, Purdue Northwest got possession deep and controlled the ball to kill off the remaining time for the win.

Saginaw Valley men's soccer finishes 4-8-6 overall with a 2-5-3 conference record and a close postseason run out of the fifth seed in the GLIAC. Their season life now awaits the NCAA Division II selection show which takes place on Monday, November 13 at 7:00 PM.
