Unbeaten Cardinals claim GLIAC title with win at PNW

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team wrapped up an outright Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship with a win in the regular season finale on the road at Purdue Northwest on Sunday.

The Cardinals fell behind in the first half but answered quickly to tie it and Jordan Murray found the game-winning goal in the second half to lift SVSU to the 2-1 win.

The victory ends the regular season for the No. 4 Cardinals with an unbeaten record of 12-0-4 and 9-0-3 in the GLIAC. SVSU will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLIAC Postseason Tournament scheduled to start on Oct. 30.

PNW got the scoring started with a goal from Pau Aran in the 22nd minute on an assist from Lucas Bravo Olle. The Cardinals answered quickly with senior Brady Walker scoring his fourth of the season on an assist from Jayden Cameron tying the score with just under 14 minutes to play in the first half.

The Cardinals took the lead for good with an unassisted goal from Jordan Murray with 26 minutes left in the game. The SVSU defense held on from there, clinching the GLIAC title.

Nick Kay got the start in net and made three saves in the win for the Cardinals. The Pride outshot SVSU narrowly 6-5.                                                                                                            

The Cardinals will host the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament on Nov. 4 with an opponent to be determined.
