SVSU Senior Day ends in 2-2 tie with NMU

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team returned to Robert C. Braddock Field for the first time this season, hosting Northern Michigan University for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference clash on Sunday.

After NMU scored an early goal, the No. 4 Cardinals rallied to hold a 2-1 lead at the break. The Wildcats found the equalizer in the 66th minute and the game finished in a 2-2 draw.

The tie is the third straight for the Cardinals who move to 8-0-4 overall and 5-0-3 in the GLIAC.

The game was the first at Braddock Field this year after the natural grass surface was replaced with artificial turf. Prior to the game, SVSU honored the 2022 senior class of Mason Maziasz, Robbie Baker, and Brady Walker.

The scoring got started in the 12th minute with an NMU goal from Cian Tunney. SVSU answered back 13 minutes later with the third of the season for Walker. Jason Squeo picked up the assist for SVSU.

The Cardinals took the lead for the first time with the third goal of the season for Jayden Cameron on an assist from Phila Dlamini three minutes before the break.

Tommaso Lami tied the game for the Wildcats and the score remained 2-2 until the final whistle.

The teams were even 13-13 in total shots, while NMU held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Nick Kay made two saves in the match in net for the Cardinals.

SVSU will play the final four games of the regular season on the road starting against St. Cloud State University at 8 pm EST Friday in St. Cloud, Minn.
