No. 9 Cardinals shutout Peacocks 3-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The No. 9 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team remained perfect in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a win over Upper Iowa University on Friday at the SVSU IM Field.

The Cardinals scored two early goals to take control and added a third in the second half to capture the 3-0 win over the Peacocks. SVSU moves to 6-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the GLIAC this season.

The nations leading scorer and two-time reigning GLIAC Player of the Week Jonathan Monney got the scoring started early for SVSU with his ninth goal of the season in the eighth minute. The assist on the goal went to Chidie Nnolim.

SVSU doubled its advantage with the first career goal from Jason Squeo in the 12th minute on an assist from Anthony Waller to go into the break up 2-0.

The Cardinals sealed the win with the first goal of the season from Cody Miller in the 68th minute on an assist from Monney.

Nick Kay got the start in net and made five saves, earning the shutout for the Cardinals.

SVSU outshot UIU 22-8 and led in corner kicks 6-1.

The Cardinals remain home to host St. Cloud State University at noon on Sunday at the SVSU IM Field.
