United Soccer Coaches Division II Poll

KANSAS CITY--Bolstered by a four-game unbeaten streak to open the 2022 season, the Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team checks in at No. 13 in the first poll of the United Soccer Coaches rankings for NCAA Division II programs.

The Cardinals, who are 3-0-1, are the highest ranked team from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). SVSU has two signature wins this fall already under its belt by defeating preseason-ranked foes No. 25 Maryville (Mo.), 2-1, on Aug. 25, and No. 16 Illinois-Springfield, 5-3, two days later.

Sophomore forward and reigning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Jonathan Monney paces the Cardinals attack with a conference-leading five goals and 11 total points. He's complemented on offense by sophomore midfielder Elliot Nottoli--who earned similar conference player of the week accolades on Aug. 29--with three goals and seven points for second in the GLIAC.

Sophomore Jack Simms has been solid in goal with a 1.75 goals-against average, including a shutout, and 13 saves while playing all 360 of the team's minutes so far.

The Cardinals look to continue their winning ways this weekend to begin conference play when they host Purdue Northwest on Friday and Davenport on Sunday at SVSU IM Field, with both games scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
