Two shutouts lift Maziasz to GLIAC POTW award

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team was held scoreless in two road games last weekend at Wisconsin Parkside and at Northern Michigan.

The Cardinals were able to salvage two draws, as SVSU held both games to a scoreless 0-0 tie. The defense, led by goalkeeper Mason Maziasz, played 220 minutes of shutout soccer in the two games.

For his efforts, Maziasz has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

The Troy, Mich., native stopped all eight shots he saw over the weekend, including six against Parkside. Maziasz is 2-1-2 in net this season, allowing just one goal in five appearances.

The Cardinals look to find their scoring touch this weekend with a pair of home games starting against St. Cloud State University at 4 pm Friday at Braddock Field.
