Parkside stuns SVSU 1-0 in OT

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team hosted the University of Wisconsin Parkside for a battle of top Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs Sunday at Braddock Field.

The Cardinals had most of the game's best chances go their way, however, Parkside's defense held, and the Rangers found the game's lone goal in the first overtime period to escape with the 1-0 win.

The loss drops SVSU to 4-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the GLIAC.

SVSU controlled the run of play throughout the first half, but the Parkside goalkeeper made several big saves. Danny Barlow hit the post for the Cardinals in the 59th minute and Benjamin Adamson rang a header off the crossbar in the 86th minute.

After another brilliant opportunity for SVSU to find the game-winner in overtime, Parkside countered. Max Ludvig played a pass to Rade Novakovich, who ripped a volley into the upper right corner on a line to set the Parkside bench into a frenzy with the game-winner.

Alejandro Durand made eight saves in net for the Rangers, while Callum Harley countered him with seven saves in goal for SVSU, which outshot Parkside 29-19 in the contest. Alex Gloshen took a team-high eight shots for SVSU, while Danny Barlow and Brady Walker each took six shots.

The Cardinals hit the road for their next seven contests starting against Upper Iowa University at 2 pm Friday in Fayette, Iowa.
