UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team played three non-conference games last week, going 2-1-0, earning a pair of key victories.

For his efforts, SVSU sophomore defender Chidie Nnolim has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Nnolim, from Brampton, Ont., helped the SVSU defense limit the opposition in the three games last week to one goal per game. He also scored the first goal of his Cardinal career, tying the game on the road at Tiffin University, as the Cardinals rallied to win the game in overtime.

SVSU prepares to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Northern Michigan University at 1 pm Friday at Braddock Field.
