Choi earns medalist honors, SVSU finishes 2nd at Watrous Invite

BAY CITY, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team hosted the 2021 Al Watrous Intercollegiate event Saturday and Sunday at the Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course.

The Cardinal's top team finished in second with a final score of 4-under par (572) in the 36-hole event, climbing three spots in the standings on day two. SVSU's B-Team finished in a tie for seventh place with a score of 12-over (588).

The University of Findlay took the team title with a two-round score of 563.

Jiseung Choi, a sophomore from Houghton, Mich., took the overall individual title for SVSU with a two-round score of 139 (68, 71), finishing one stroke better than three golfers tied for second. Including Thomas Keyte, who was playing for the SVSU B-Team.

Brendon Gouin tied for eighth with a 142, while Nick Bailey was tied for 30th with a 147. Connor Jakacki (tied-39th) and Joseph Per (tied-62nd) rounded out the five golfers for the SVSU top team.

The SVSU men's golf team travels to Findlay to compete in the Doc Spragg Invitational starting Monday, Sept. 20 in Findlay, Ohio.
