Tre Garrett and Freddie McIntosh Named Preseason All-GLIAC Second Team

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Senior Tre Garrett and junior Freddie McIntosh were named to the preseason All-GLIAC second team when the conference announced the preseason poll and individual awards on Tuesday, October 31.

"We are very happy for Tre and Freddie," said SVSU head men's basketball coach Randy Baruth. "They are very deserving of this recognition!"

The duo accounted for 42.2 percent of the team's scoring and almost a third of the rebounding effort last season and are the two leading playmakers returning for the Cardinals as they allotted 5.5 of the team's 13.3 assists per game for 2022-23.

Garrett was the team's leader on defense as he had a team-high 2.0 steals and an impressive 6.2 rebounds per game. The Saginaw native contributed on offense as the second-leading scorer with 14.7 points per game.

"Tre is everything we want our program to be about: high character, relentless motor on the court, and academically minded off the court – he currently has all A's and B's in his master's courses," continued Baruth. "He devoted a ton of time this offseason to his game and his skill level has taken a big leap. We are looking forward to him having a big senior season and leading our team."

McIntosh led the Cardinals in scoring a season ago with 16.3 points per contest. The guard from Saginaw, Michigan also averaged over three assists and rebounds per outing.

"Freddie was called on to do a lot for us last season offensively, and while he only cares about winning and not statistics, 16.3 PPG is an impressive number to go along with 3+ rebounds and assists," lauded Baruth. "He is the second leading scorer among all returners in the GLIAC and is still always in the gym working on his game. We are happy for Freddie and expect him to have a great season."

The Cardinals open the 2023-24 season with an exhibition contest against Rochester University on Monday, November 6, before opening the regular season with a home date against Malone four days later. Tipoff for the game this Monday is set for 7:00 p.m., while the game against Malone is set for a 6:00 p.m., start.
