UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team earned its first win of the 2022-23 season against Indiana University-Northwest on Tuesday at the O'Neill Arena.
Leading by one at the break, SVSU took control at the start of the second half, outscoring the Redhawks 34-11 in the first 10 minutes following halftime. The Cardinals held on for the XX-XX win to move to 1-2 overall to start the season.
How it Happened:
- The Redhawks opened the game on a 10-2 run to take an early advantage.
- SVSU chipped away and used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 22-20 with 10 minutes to play in the opening half.
- Freddie McIntosh made a layup in the final seconds of the first half to put SVSU in front 38-37 at the break.
- The Cardinals came out of the locker room on fire and a Jiovanni Miles 3-pointer put SVSU up 53-41.
- SVSU continued to build on the lead and back-to-back 3-pointers from Alijah Harrison and Maurice Barnett stretched the advantage to 72-48 midway through the second half.
- Redhawks used a 15-3 run to cut the SVSU lead to 12 points with under four minutes to play.
- The Cardinals closed out the game at the line to earn their first win of the season.
