Brandon Clayton
Title: Defensive Backs / Defensive Coordinator

SVSU Head Football Coach Ryan Brady announced the addition of Brandon Clayton to the coaching staff. Clayton will join the Cardinal staff as the Defensive Backs Coach and Defensive Coordinator.

"We are thrilled with the addition of Brandon Clayton to our football program," stated Coach Brady. "Brandon is phenomenal. He is an excellent leader, coach, and teacher. Brandon is a great fit to lead our defense. He has a passion for developing young men and building lasting relationships with his players. Brandon has achieved success at the highest levels in D2 as a player and coach. He is a winner and a champion! We are excited to welcome Brandon to the SVSU Family and the Great Lakes Bay region."

Clayton comes from the national powerhouse Northwest Missouri State University.  He was instrumental in building the Northwest dynasty as both a player and a coach. At Northwest, Clayton served as the Defensive Backs Coach, Special Teams Coordinator, and Recruiting Coordinator. He helped the team to an 89-17 record during his nine seasons coaching with the Bearcats to go along with back-to-back National Championships in 2015 and 2016. In addition, he served as the academic coordinator, social media coordinator, and team administrator & compliance liaison. 

As a player at Northwest, Brandon started four years at cornerback receiving all-conference honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior as well as regional accolades. He was a team captain and finished his playing career with a 44-6 record to go along with four trips to the National Championship game.

At Morningside College, Clayton was the Defensive Backs Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. He also served as the team's academic coordinator. He compiled a 44-7 record in his four seasons at Morningside.  In addition, Brandon won a National Championship in 2012 to go along with a pair of semifinal appearances in 2013 and 2014.
